Why this trip to China?

This few-days trip was planned mainly to observe the total Solar eclipse occuring August the first of 2008.
Since I have been able to see this phenomenon for the first time right from our balcony on the 11th of August 1999, I promised I would participate in such a particular moment one more time again in my life.
Totally unique, this 1st August eclipse was the occasion to satisfy my desire all the more so it happens on my birthday !

The ideal observation place as weather forecast concerns was China, in the middle of the Gobi desert in Gansu province. At this place Eclipse-City, an organisation specialized in eclipse observation events, planned to install a dedicated camp.
